Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), June 5, 2026: In a significant development for the Himachal Pradesh Congress, state vice president and former MLA Neeraj Bharti resigned from his party post with immediate effect on Thursday, exposing simmering internal differences within the state unit.
Bharti submitted his resignation to Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee president Vinay Kumar and Kangra District Congress Committee president Anurag Sharma, just hours after being served a show-cause notice over alleged indiscipline.
The controversy erupted after the Kangra District Congress Committee accused Bharti of repeatedly making social media posts and public statements that were allegedly detrimental to the interests of the Congress government, the party organization, and the party's image in the state.
The notice maintained that any concerns regarding government decisions should have been raised through internal party forums rather than in the public domain.
Responding strongly to the disciplinary action, Bharti took to social media and criticized the party's approach towards dissenting voices. In a pointed remark, he suggested that discipline loses its meaning when the concerns of dedicated workers are ignored and their efforts go unrecognized.
