DC launches district-level ‘Tree Plantation’ drive in Fazilka
Fazilka, July 31, 2026: In a significant initiative aimed at protecting the environment and creating a greener Punjab for future generations, Deputy Commissioner Fazilka, Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu on Thursday launched a district-level tree plantation drive by planting saplings on the divider along the Fazilka-Abohar Road. Additional Deputy Commissioner Mandeep Kaur was also present on the occasion.
DC said that the Punjab Government is conducting a large-scale plantation campaign across the state, with a target of planting lakhs of saplings this year. Fazilka district has also been assigned a substantial plantation target.
She informed that the Forest Department, has already planted a total of 40,822 saplings during 2026-27 under various schemes and initiatives.
Under the Green Punjab Mission, 9,400 saplings have been planted. This includes 4,500 saplings in nine Nanak Bagichis, with 500 saplings planted in each garden, besides 400 saplings in one Sacred Forest. Another 4,500 saplings have been planted across educational and government institutions, covering nine hectares at the rate of 500 saplings per hectare.
In addition, 2,722 saplings have been planted over 36.22 hectares under the CA scheme, while 4,200 saplings have been planted over 21 hectares under the ANR (NPV) scheme.
On the first day of the campaign, the Fazilka Municipal Council, with the support of the Forest Department, planted around 150 saplings. The number is expected to reach 500 within the next few days.
DC said that the plantation drive is being carried forward with the active participation of various government departments, educational institutions, panchayats and social organisations.
Appealing to residents to plant more shade-giving and fruit-bearing trees, she said that trees not only help keep the environment clean but also constitute a valuable legacy for future generations. She stressed that planting a sapling is only the beginning; its regular watering, protection and maintenance are equally important.
She urged every citizen to plant at least one tree and take responsibility for nurturing it, saying that collective efforts can help make Fazilka a greener and pollution-free district.
Municipal Council Fazilka’s Executive Officer and Forest Range Officer Sukhdev Singh were also present on the occasion.
