Food Safety Dept seizes 850 Kg Khoya; seals 5 Qtls of suspected 'Patisa' in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, August 24, 2026: Acting on a specific confidential input, the Food Safety Department, conducted a major checking operation as part of its ongoing campaign to monitor the sale of sweets in villages and check suspicious food products being brought into the district.
The department had received information that a large quantity of sweets and khoya was allegedly being supplied from Ferozepur city to villages. Acting on the information, a Food Safety team launched a special checking drive early in the morning.
During the inspection, approximately 850 kg of khoya was found. Samples were collected as per prescribed procedures and sent for laboratory testing to determine its quality and safety.
In addition, around five quintals of suspected pattisa being brought from Moga was also detected during the checking. The entire quantity has been sealed and kept under custody pending further investigation and the laboratory report.
Officials said that after receipt of the laboratory report, further legal action would be initiated on the basis of the findings under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules and regulations framed thereunder.
Abhinav Khosla, Food Safety Officer, appealed to residents of Ferozepur city and villages to remain cautious while purchasing sweets and other food products. Consumers have been advised to check the FSSAI licence or registration of the seller, hygiene conditions, quality and expiry details before making a purchase.
The department also urged consumers to buy food products only from reliable and licensed vendors. It also stressed the need to check the source, supply chain and quality of sweets and other food products being brought into Ferozepur from other cities and districts.
Officials said the checking campaign would continue in the coming days to ensure the availability of safe and quality food products to consumers.
