Ludhiana (Punjab), June 5, 2026: A disturbing development has emerged from Ludhiana, where nine girls have reportedly gone missing from different parts of the city within a span of just 48 hours.
The incident has triggered serious concern, prompting the Punjab State Women Commission to take suo motu cognizance of the matter.
Acting on media reports highlighting the disappearances, Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has directed authorities to conduct an urgent and thorough investigation.
She emphasized that the safety and dignity of women and girls remain non-negotiable and that such a large number of missing cases raises serious questions about public safety and law enforcement response.
The Commission has issued written instructions to senior police officials in Ludhiana, seeking immediate action. Given the sensitivity of the case, the Commission has directed that the investigation be handled by a senior police officer rather than junior personnel.
The Ludhiana Police have also been asked to submit a detailed report by June 8, 2026, outlining the steps taken to trace the missing girls, the progress of the investigation, and any action initiated so far.
Raj Lali Gill stated that the Commission is closely monitoring the case and expects swift and effective measures from the police administration. She warned that any negligence, delay, or failure in handling the matter could invite strict action against the officials concerned.
