Rain, thunderstorms likely in 12 Punjab districts

Mohali (Punjab), October 8, 2026: Rain and thunderstorms are likely in 12 districts of Punjab on Thursday, with lightning and strong winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph, according to the Meteorological Department.
Recent rain and hailstorms have brought relief from the heat in several areas of Punjab and Chandigarh. The changing weather has also led to a drop in temperatures across the state.
Punjab’s average maximum temperature fell by 1.8 degrees Celsius compared with the previous day, although it remained close to normal. Bathinda recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 36.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain in parts of Pathankot, Gurdaspur and Hoshiarpur.
Similar conditions are likely in some areas of Amritsar, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar (Ropar), Patiala and Mohali. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also possible in several areas. Strong winds are expected in Chandigarh as well.
Residents are advised to remain cautious during thunderstorms and avoid exposed areas during lightning and strong winds.
