Amritsar (Punjab), August 28, 2026: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday paid obeisance at Sri Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) in Amritsar, saying he had come to express gratitude to Guru Sahib for protecting him from what he described as an attack by “Guru-doshis”.
Speaking to reporters after paying obeisance, Sukhbir said he had come to seek the blessings of Guru Sahib and express his gratitude.
During his interaction with the media, the SAD president also launched a sharp attack on the Aam Aadmi Party government and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann over issues concerning Punjab government employees.
Sukhbir said the Chief Minister should learn from the way former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal dealt with employees and other sections of society.
“Instead of harassing employees, the Chief Minister should learn from Badal Sahib,” he said, alleging that Parkash Singh Badal would listen to the grievances of different sections and work towards resolving them, whereas the present government was allegedly trying to suppress employees through threats and police pressure.
Sukhbir claimed that various facilities and Pay Commission benefits received by Punjab government employees were introduced during governments led by Parkash Singh Badal.
He further alleged that the Punjab Government was not releasing Dearness Allowance (DA) to employees despite directions of the High Court, and termed the alleged failure to comply with the court's directions as contempt of court.
The SAD president also accused the state government of denying employees their legitimate dues while spending billions of rupees on advertisements, rallies and election campaigning.
Sukhbir said the people of Punjab would not tolerate what he termed the government's “high-handedness” and would give an appropriate response in the coming elections.
