Heading home for Raksha Bandhan, 23-year-old dies after 2.5 hours in agony on road; Family alleges ambulance delay; Watch Video

Mohali (Punjab), August 28, 2026: On a day when three sisters were waiting for their brother to come home and tie the sacred bond of Raksha Bandhan, 23-year-old Parampreet was fighting for his life on the side of a road. He had left home that morning to reach his sisters in time for the festival. Instead, according to his family, he remained critically injured and in agony at the accident spot for nearly two-and-a-half hours, while repeated calls for an ambulance failed to bring timely help.
Parampreet was eventually taken to Government Civil Hospital, Phase-6, Mohali, where doctors declared him dead.

The family now alleges that around six calls were made for an ambulance, while the Road Safety Force and police also failed to reach the spot in time. The allegations have not yet been officially confirmed.
The tragedy unfolded around 7:30 am when Parampreet, who worked as an electrician, was riding his motorcycle from his aunt’s house in village Darba towards his native village Machhli Kalan near Landran. He was going home for Raksha Bandhan, hoping to celebrate the festival with his three sisters.
According to the family, his motorcycle slipped on Airport Road and crashed into a divider. He suffered a severe head injury after hitting the angle of an iron grill installed on the divider.
What happened after the crash is at the centre of the family’s anguish.
They allege that Parampreet did not die immediately. He remained alive and critically injured at the spot, struggling for nearly one-and-a-half to two-and-a-half hours as people around him sought emergency assistance. The family claims that an ambulance was called repeatedly — around six times — but did not arrive in time.
They further allege that neither the Road Safety Force nor the police reached the spot promptly.
By the time Parampreet was eventually taken to Government Civil Hospital in Phase-6, Mohali, he could not be saved.
He Was the Brother His Sisters Were Waiting For
Parampreet’s death has left his family devastated, but the timing has made the loss particularly painful.
He had three sisters. On Raksha Bandhan, they were waiting for their brother to return home so they could tie Rakhi on his wrist.
Instead, the brother they were expecting to celebrate with never came home alive.
According to the family, Parampreet was the main financial support for the household. His mother is unwell, while his father is undergoing treatment for depression. Despite holding a management degree, Parampreet had been working as an electrician and helping meet the family’s expenses.
For his sisters, however, he was simply their brother — the person they were waiting for on Raksha Bandhan. He left that morning to receive a Rakhi from his sisters. By the end of the day, they were mourning his death.
The family’s allegations regarding the delay in emergency response and the exact timeline of the incident are yet to be officially established.
