Voter registration camps organized at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University
Ferozepur, September 11, 2026: With the objective of facilitating eligible students who are attaining the 18 years of age on or before October 1, 2026 in registering themselves as voters and strengthening democratic participation, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, (SBSSU) has organised a series of Voter Registration Camps on its campus under the instructions of the Secretary, Higher Education and Deputy Commissioner-cum-Chief Electoral Officer, ,
The three Voter Registration Camps were organised on 25th August and 2nd September and 9th September respectively at the Computer Centre, Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University. During these Voter Registration camps, Mrs. Harpreet Kaur-Sarpanch Village Alewala was the Chief Guest and Harwant Singh-Member Block Samiti was Guest of Honour.
They said the initiative aims to motivate eligible students to exercise their constitutional right to vote and to ensure that no eligible young citizen is left out of the electoral registration process. During the camps, eligible participants were facilitated in the voter registration process, including online registration wherever required. Participants were advised to bring necessary documents such as proof of date of birth, proof of residence, recent passport-size photographs and a mobile phone wherever required for the online registration process.
The University had appealed to all eligible students to take advantage of these camps and register themselves as voters. The initiative reinforces the message: “Be a Responsible Citizen – Your Vote, Your Voice, Your Future.”
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof. Suresh Kumar Sharma expressed the commitment to promoting electoral awareness, responsible citizenship and active participation of youth in the democratic process. The campaign carries the broader message that “Every Vote Counts, Every Voice Matters” and that a strong democracy is the foundation of a strong nation.
University Registrar Prof. Rajiv Arora lauded the efforts of the Voter Registration team of Gurjeevan Singh, Nodal Officer – Voter Registration and Dr. Kamal Khanna, NSS Programme Coordinator and the hard work of BLOs Balkaran Singh and uresh Kumar for actively guiding the students during this camp.
