Chandigarh, October 10, 2025: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the high-profile case surrounding the death of senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, police officials said on Friday. Security has also been deployed outside the officer’s Chandigarh residence as the inquiry proceeds.
The case centres on the death of the 2001-batch officer, who was found dead at his government accommodation in Sector-11, Chandigarh on October 7. According to reports, Kumar died by suicide and in a note accused several senior officers of sustained mental harassment and caste-based discrimination.
Following a complaint by his wife, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, Chandigarh Police registered an FIR that includes allegations of abetment to suicide and offences under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against multiple senior police officers, including top officials in Haryana.
The wife has also sought corrections to the FIR to ensure all names and allegations are properly recorded
