Chandigarh, December 30, 2025: MLA from Kapurthala Rana Gurjeet Singh on Tuesday raised strong concerns in the Punjab Assembly, alleging that history is being distorted “right in front of our eyes.”
Addressing the House, he demanded that a resolution be passed urging the Centre not to interfere in Sikh religious affairs.
Rana Gurjeet asserted that matters related to Sikh history and traditions should be handled independently, without external influence, to preserve their authenticity and sanctity.

He also lauded Aam Aadmi Party MPs Malvinder Singh Kang and Balbir Singh Seechewal for raising the issue in Parliament, particularly their demand that ‘Veer Bal Diwas’ be renamed as ‘Sahibzada Shahadat Diwas.’
Praising their stand, Rana Gurjeet said the move would ensure historical accuracy and pay due respect to the supreme sacrifice of the Sahibzadas, adding that such issues must be addressed with sensitivity and consensus.
