Chandigarh, February 23, 2026: Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht, Giani Harpreet Singh, has strongly condemned the demolition action carried out near the residence of Bholath MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, terming it a serious and troubling development.
In a statement, Giani Harpreet Singh said that taking action against the private property of an opposition MLA under the pretext of demolishing a gate installed near his residence raises significant legal and procedural concerns — particularly when the legislator was reportedly presenting documents to establish ownership.
He alleged that initiating demolition with a JCB without serving prior notice and deploying a heavy police presence casts doubt on whether due process was followed. Such measures, he said, give the impression of an attempt to silence opposition voices.
Expressing solidarity with Khaira, the former Jathedar said he stands firmly with the MLA and strongly condemns the manner in which the action was carried out.
