Sri Muktsar Sahib (Punjab), April 24, 2026: In a major push towards self-reliance, the Punjab Government has distributed tool kits to 351 ITI trainees from Scheduled Caste communities to promote self-employment across multiple districts.
Announcing the initiative, Cabinet Minister Baljit Kaur said the move aims to strengthen the socio-economic condition of SC youth by enabling them to start their own ventures and earn sustainable livelihoods.
The distribution took place during a district-level event at Malout, organised by the Department of Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities on the 136th birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar.
Highlighting the government’s vision under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the minister said several welfare schemes are being implemented to empower Scheduled Castes through skill development and financial support.
A total of 351 trainees from nine ITIs across Sri Muktsar Sahib, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur and Fazilka received tool kits in trades such as electrician, refrigeration & air conditioning, and plumbing, enabling them to pursue self-employment.
On the occasion, laptops were also distributed to school-going girls, while sewing machines were provided to needy beneficiaries. The minister further announced that a loan distribution camp will soon be organised to support aspiring entrepreneurs.
Emphasising holistic development, Baljit Kaur also inaugurated a newly constructed volleyball ground in Malout and said that playgrounds and mini parks are being developed to encourage youth participation in sports and steer them away from drug abuse.
She added that sports infrastructure is being strengthened in rural areas, with stadiums under development in 24 villages, including the Malout volleyball ground built at a cost of ₹10 lakh.
