Patiala (Punjab), May 9, 2026: The Cycling Association of Punjab (CAP) on Friday unveiled an ambitious roadmap aimed at transforming cycling in the state and preparing Punjab’s athletes for international and Olympic-level success.
Addressing a press conference at the CAP office in Surya Complex, CAP President Charanjit Singh Dhaliwal and General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon outlined the association’s long-term vision under the theme “From Soil to Sky – Punjab Cycling’s Global Flight.” The official logo of the Cycling Association of Punjab was also launched during the event.
Former Punjab Cabinet Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra attended the programme as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Dhaliwal said the association’s mission was not limited to promoting cycling as a sport but to develop it into a globally competitive discipline. He said Punjab’s youth possess natural strength, endurance and determination, which can be channelled into international achievements with proper training and opportunities.
He announced that CAP would launch talent hunt programmes at district and block levels to identify promising cyclists from rural areas. Modern cycling academies are also planned in every district to provide athletes with professional coaching, accommodation, balanced nutrition and world-class equipment.
General Secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon said the association would soon introduce the Punjab Cycling League to provide players with competitive exposure and cash incentives. He added that a structured annual calendar of district, state and national-level competitions would be prepared to ensure regular participation opportunities for athletes.
Kahlon further said that scientific methods such as data analysis, performance monitoring, fitness management and recovery systems would be integrated into training programmes. CAP also plans to collaborate with international coaches and experts to provide athletes with global-standard coaching.
The association also announced plans to strengthen sports infrastructure by establishing modern velodromes, high-performance centres and regional training hubs across Punjab.
Highlighting Punjab’s rich history in cycling, CAP leaders said the state has produced several athletes who brought recognition to India at international events and stressed the need to revive that legacy.
The association also reaffirmed its commitment to clean sport and announced anti-doping awareness drives, workshops and educational campaigns to promote ethics and integrity among athletes.
Apart from competitive sports, CAP said it would promote cycling as a healthy lifestyle through awareness campaigns focusing on fitness, environmental sustainability and community participation.
Former minister Surjit Singh Rakhra appreciated the initiative and expressed confidence that Punjab cycling would once again rise to national and international prominence.
Several office-bearers, coaches, athletes and sports enthusiasts were present during the event, including Joint Secretary Sukhjinder Singh, Treasurer B.S. Sudan and Vice President Bawa Singh.
