Amritsar (Punjab), May 17, 2026: Akali Dal Waris Punjab De has announced the end of its coordination process and alliance efforts with Akali Dal Punr Surjit, citing serious ideological differences and concerns over leadership credibility.
In a statement issued from Amritsar on Saturday, members of the four-member coordination committee of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De — Babu Singh Brar, Parmjeet Singh Johal, Pragat Singh Raiya and Rachhpal Singh Sosan — said an eight-member “Panthic Unity Coordination Committee” had earlier been formed between the two factions to promote Panthic unity in line with the sentiments of Sikhs in India and abroad.
The committee reportedly held several rounds of discussions, but failed to reach agreement on key ideological issues, leading to a breakdown in coordination between the two sides.
Leaders of Akali Dal Waris Punjab De stated that the Sikh community expects Panthic leadership to remain in the hands of individuals with honesty, clean public image and Panth-approved credibility.
The faction alleged that despite earlier understandings based on the December 2 Hukamnama issued by Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the other group continued to give important positions to leaders who had “lost moral authority” to lead the Panth.
The statement further claimed that repeated “irresponsible statements” by the leadership of the other faction weakened the foundation of the alliance and made further coordination difficult.
However, the committee acknowledged that several sincere and Panthic-minded leaders within Akali Dal Punr Surjit had made genuine efforts to make the alliance successful.
Akali Dal Waris Punjab De clarified that its doors remain open for honest and Panth-approved leaders and reiterated its commitment to “clean and principled Panthic politics” for the welfare and progress of Punjab and the Sikh community.
