Ferozepur student to raise farmers’ voice at Human Rights Summit in Vancouver
Ferozepur, May 17, 2026:
Hazel, a Class 12 student of DCM International School, Ferozepur, has been selected to represent Punjab at the prestigious Human Rights Summit Vancouver-2026, where she will raise issues related to farmers’ land rights and ownership challenges on an international platform.
The summit will be held from May 21 to 24 at the University of British Columbia’s Michael Kingsmill Hall in Vancouver, Canada, with participation from representatives of nearly 30 countries. Only two delegates have been selected from India, and Hazel is the sole participant from Punjab.
At the summit, Hazel will speak about the struggles faced by farmers concerning land disputes, compensation, ownership rights, and related challenges. She said Punjab’s farmers are the backbone of the nation, but many continue to fight for their land and rights even today.
Hazel informed that her selected topic has already received official approval from the organizers. She will also be among the youngest representatives attending the conference.
Apart from academics, Hazel is actively involved in environmental protection initiatives through an NGO named “Earth Volunteer,” which has more than 50 members. She has also received a scholarship from Benson College, USA.
School Principal Anuradha Chandel said Hazel has excelled in academics and co-curricular activities since the beginning. She scored 95 percent marks in Class 10 and 90 percent in Class 11. The principal added that Hazel’s achievement is a matter of pride not only for the school but for the entire Ferozepur district and Punjab.
