Bikaner/New Delhi, May 27, 2026: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has directed authorities to demolish all illegal constructions located within 15 kilometres of India’s international borders as part of a major crackdown aimed at strengthening national security and curbing cross-border illegal activities.
The directions were issued during a high-level security review meeting held in Bikaner, Rajasthan, where Shah assessed the security situation in districts along the Indo-Pak border.
The meeting was attended by Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, senior state officials, and administrative and police officers from key border districts including Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Sri Ganganagar and Phalodi.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Shah ordered strict enforcement of a “zero tolerance policy” against illegal structures constructed in border areas over recent years and instructed officials to remove them immediately.
The Home Minister also stressed the need for a comprehensive “360-degree security cover” in border districts, involving coordination between local residents, district administrations and central security agencies.
He directed officials to conduct detailed studies into smuggling networks, illegal trade routes and narco-related activities operating in border regions so that long-term action plans could be developed to dismantle such operations.
The Ministry further said the role of District Magistrates has been expanded significantly in efforts to curb cross-border terror funding, organised crime and economic offences. Officials have been asked to intensify monitoring and ensure tighter coordination among security and intelligence agencies in sensitive border areas.
