Mandi (Himachal Pradesh), May 28, 2026: At least five tourists were injured after a traveller vehicle overturned on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway near Panarsa in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Wednesday.
According to reports, the tourist vehicle was on its way to Manali when the driver reportedly lost control near Panarsa, causing the vehicle to overturn on the highway.
The accident triggered panic at the spot as passengers remained trapped inside the vehicle. Local residents and passersby rushed to the scene and rescued the occupants by breaking the windows of the traveller.
Police and administrative teams reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and launched rescue and relief operations. The injured passengers were shifted to a nearby hospital after being given primary treatment. Some of the injured were later referred for advanced medical care, officials said.
Traffic movement on the Chandigarh-Manali Highway remained affected for some time following the accident. The damaged vehicle was later removed from the road with the help of a crane, after which traffic was restored.
Preliminary investigation suggests that overspeeding or loss of balance on the hilly stretch may have caused the accident, though police said the exact reason is being investigated.
With tourist traffic increasing during the ongoing holiday season, authorities have once again appealed to drivers to maintain speed limits and exercise caution while driving on mountainous roads.
