Chandigarh, June 3, 2026: Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu has triggered fresh political speculation after expressing his desire to return to Punjab and work at the state level after spending nearly two decades in Parliament.
Speaking at a public event, Bittu said, “I have spent 17 years in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Now, I feel like coming to the Vidhan Sabha and working for Punjab.”
The remark has fuelled discussions in political circles about the possibility of the BJP leader taking a more active role in Punjab politics in the coming years.
Bittu, who currently serves as a Union Minister in the Narendra Modi-led government, reflected on his long parliamentary journey and indicated that he now wishes to contribute more directly to the development of his home state.
“I have spent 17 years in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. Now my desire is to come to the Vidhan Sabha and work for Punjab,” he said.
Speaking at Kewal Singh Dhillon's charge-taking ceremony as Punjab BJP president, Bittu said the BJP had given opportunities to leaders like him, unlike his previous party. Assuring Dhillon of his full support, he remarked, "We have been sitting in Delhi for a long time. We want to travel through every corner of Punjab, meet the people and live among them."
While Bittu did not make any formal announcement regarding his future political plans, his statement has been interpreted by many as a signal that he may be interested in contesting future Punjab Assembly elections.
The remarks assume significance as the BJP continues its efforts to strengthen its presence in Punjab and prepare its strategy for upcoming electoral battles in the state.
A prominent political figure from Punjab, Bittu has represented the state in Parliament for several terms and has been one of the BJP’s key faces in the region since joining the party.
His latest comments have sparked debate over whether he could eventually shift his focus from national politics to state politics, though no official confirmation has been made regarding any such move.
Political observers say the statement reflects Bittu’s desire to play a more direct role in addressing Punjab’s challenges and shaping the state's future through active participation in the Punjab Assembly.
