PAU-KVK conducts "Save Fields Campaign” awareness camp in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, June 3, 2026: Under the nationwide “Save tlFields Campaign,” the team of PAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, under the leadership of Dr. Gurmel Singh Sandhu, Deputy Director (Training), has been conducting awareness camps, farmers’ meetings, field visits, and conferences in various villages of Ferozepur district since June 1.
Providing details about the campaign, Dr. Sandhu said that the initiative is being carried out across the country from June 1 to June 30 under the guidelines of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and ICAR, New Delhi. The primary objective of the campaign is to create awareness among farmers about maintaining soil health and adopting balanced and judicious use of fertilizers based on scientific recommendations. The campaign also aims to equip farmers with weather-based and region-specific agricultural advisories to help them cope with climate change and benefit from various government schemes.
As part of the campaign, farmers’ meetings were organized on June 3 in villages Jandwala and Shehzadi of Ferozepur district. Addressing the farmers, Dr. Bhallan Singh Sekhon, Assistant Professor, emphasized the importance of applying fertilizers based on soil testing, particularly for the upcoming paddy crop. He advised that if the recommended dose of phosphorus fertilizer had already been applied to the wheat crop, there was no need to apply phosphorus again in paddy. He also encouraged farmers to make greater use of farmyard manure and organic fertilizers.
Following the meetings, farmers were given practical demonstrations on the proper methods of collecting soil and water samples. Soil and water samples from farmers’ fields in Jandwala and Shehzadi were collected and submitted for testing at the Soil and Water Testing Laboratory established at PAU-KVK, Ferozepur.
Young farmers, including Angrej Singh and Baljit Singh from Jandwala, and Hardeep Singh and Ranjit Singh from Shehzadi, expressed their commitment to adopting balanced fertilizer use based on soil testing and avoiding unnecessary phosphorus application in paddy. During the field visits, experts also addressed farmers’ queries regarding soil and water testing and the use of phosphorus fertilizers.
