RPF cracks down on unnecessary chain pulling; 630 cases registered, Rs 84,300 fine collected
Ferozepur, June 3, 2026: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Ferozepur Division has intensified its campaign against the misuse of alarm chains in trains, registering 630 cases and securing fines amounting to ₹84,300 between January 1 and May 31, 2026.
Indian Railways, regarded as the lifeline of the nation, provides safe and timely transportation to millions of passengers every day. To ensure passenger safety, alarm chains are installed in railway coaches for use only during genuine emergencies. However, despite continuous awareness campaigns, some passengers misuse the facility for personal convenience or without valid reasons, causing disruption to train operations.
According to railway authorities, unnecessary chain pulling affects train punctuality, inconveniences thousands of passengers, and results in financial losses to the Railways. Under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989, pulling an alarm chain without sufficient cause is a punishable offence, attracting fines, imprisonment, or both.
As part of its ongoing enforcement drive, the Ferozepur Division launched special campaigns to curb such violations. During the first five months of 2026, 630 cases were registered under Section 141 of the Railways Act. The RPF initiated legal proceedings against the offenders, and the cases were presented before the competent courts, which imposed a total fine of ₹84,300.
Senior Divisional Security Commissioner RPF, Rishi Pandey, appealed to passengers to use the alarm chain only in genuine emergency situations. He emphasized that unnecessary chain pulling not only violates the law but also hampers smooth railway operations and affects the travel plans of thousands of passengers.
The Ferozepur Division reiterated its commitment to ensuring passenger safety, security, and uninterrupted train services across the region.
