Jaipur (Rajasthan), June 4, 2026: Senior IAS officer Rohit Kumar (IAS:1997), who was serving as Additional Secretary in NITI Aayog, has been sent back to his parent cadre in Rajasthan before the completion of his central deputation tenure.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on June 3, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his premature repatriation at the request of the Rajasthan Government. The order also stipulates the imposition of an extended cooling-off period.
Rohit Kumar had taken charge as Additional Secretary in NITI Aayog in July 2025. His deputation at the Centre had earlier been extended by one year, allowing him to continue in the post until September 24, 2026. However, the latest decision will see him return to Rajasthan nearly three months before the completion of the extended term.
A 1997-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Kumar has held several key positions in the Central Government. Before joining NITI Aayog, he served in the Cabinet Secretariat, where he worked as Joint Secretary and later as Additional Secretary from May 2022 onwards.
Earlier, he was posted as Joint Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, a role he assumed in September 2018. Over the years, he has been associated with policy formulation and administrative reforms at the national level.
The repatriation comes following a formal request from the Rajasthan Government, paving the way for his return to the state administration.
