Patiala (Punjab), June 5, 2026: Tensions flared outside the headquarters of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) in Patiala on Friday after Punjab Police resorted to a lathi-charge to disperse protesting unemployed ITI-qualified candidates who had been staging a demonstration for several days.
The protesters had been demanding employment opportunities and were blocking the main gate of the PSPCL head office as well as a nearby road, disrupting movement in the area. The situation escalated when demonstrators allegedly shut down another entrance to the headquarters, intensifying pressure on the authorities.
According to reports, police and administrative officials held talks with the protesters in an attempt to resolve the standoff peacefully. However, after negotiations failed to yield a breakthrough, police moved in to clear the protest site.
Police personnel used force to remove the demonstrators and reopen access to the PSPCL office premises. Several protesters were seen being removed from the area as authorities worked to restore normal operations at the headquarters.
Further details are awaited.
