Talwara (Punjab), June 12, 2026: The Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) conducted its annual pre-monsoon preparedness meeting at Talwara to review and strengthen flood prevention measures ahead of the upcoming rainy season. The meeting was chaired by Chief Engineer Rakesh Kumar Gupta and attended by officials from Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, along with village sarpanches from areas located downstream of Pong Dam along the Beas River.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Engineer Rakesh Kumar Gupta said that BBMB has enhanced its flood warning infrastructure by installing Early Warning Systems at six locations and Public Address Systems at five locations this year. He added that whenever water is released, information is promptly communicated to residents living along the riverbanks through mobile announcement vehicles.
Gupta informed that advance notifications regarding water releases are shared with the concerned civil and police administrations, as well as other relevant departments of both states, at least 24 hours in advance. He emphasized that BBMB maintains constant coordination with all stakeholders to ensure public safety and effective flood management.
Urging residents to remain alert during the monsoon season, he advised people to avoid venturing near the river whenever warning alerts are issued. He noted that the newly installed Early Warning Systems would help disseminate critical information quickly and efficiently, thereby enhancing public safety.
The Chief Engineer also clarified that there is no cause for concern among the public, stating that the meeting was a routine precautionary exercise aimed at ensuring preparedness and strengthening coordination among various departments before the onset of the monsoon.
Among those present were Deputy Chief Engineer Vimal Kumar Meena, Superintending Engineer Manveen Chaudhary, DSP Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Engineers Vinay Kumar, Arvinderpal Singh Ubhi, Gaurav Lamba and Rabinder Singh, Naib Tehsildar Fatehpur Ajay Sharma, SDOs Pawan Kumar and Parminder Singh, besides other officials.
