Breaking: 7 dead, 46 hospitalized after Ammonia gas leak at Tamil Nadu Seafood Plant

Thiruvallur (Tamil Nadu), June 21, 2026: In a tragic industrial accident, at least seven workers lost their lives and 46 others were hospitalised after a major ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing unit in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district on Sunday.
According to preliminary reports, the toxic gas leaked from the processing facility, exposing dozens of workers to hazardous fumes.
The victims reportedly died at the site, while several others suffered severe breathing difficulties and were rushed to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Health officials said that among the injured, seven workers are in critical condition and have been placed on ventilator support. Medical teams are closely monitoring their condition.
Emergency response teams, police officials and district authorities rushed to the spot soon after the incident and launched rescue and evacuation operations. An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the gas leak and whether safety protocols were followed at the facility.
