Visually impaired celebrate World Music Day with melodies of joy at Blind Home
Ferozepur, June 21, 2026: The spirit of music, compassion and togetherness came alive on World Music Day as the Music Team of DCM International School organised a special musical evening at the Blind Home, Ferozepur.
World Music Day, celebrated every year on June 21, highlights the power of music as a universal language that brings people together beyond barriers of age, ability and background. The day promotes musical expression, harmony and the joy of sharing melodies with everyone.
The programme began with soulful musical performances by the school’s music faculty. The melodious renditions of old Hindi songs created an atmosphere of happiness and emotional bonding among the residents of the Blind Home.
The highlight of the celebration was the participation of visually impaired residents - Sukhchain and mimicry performance by Katia, who joined the performances and sang beautiful songs accompanied by harmonium and tabla. Their inspiring performances received a warm round of applause, and the entire hall echoed with appreciation and joy.
School Principal Anuradha Chandel said that the event was organised to celebrate the universal language of music and spread the message of empathy and inclusion. She added that music has the power to connect hearts beyond boundaries and differences.
Deputy General Manager Gagandeep Kaur said that the school regularly visits the Blind Home on special occasions to spend time with the residents and make them feel valued and connected with society. She emphasised that visually impaired persons are an important part of the community and deserve love, respect and equal opportunities.
Avtar Singh Supervisor, Blind Home, said during the last four years, around 30 students of the institution have joined various government jobs and are now supporting their families. Presently, around 27 inmates are enjoying the free lodging and boarding besides various other facilities to improve their academic qualification.
Those present on the occasion included Deputy Principal Madhu Chopra, Activity Coordinator Kavita Sharma, members of the school’s music team and other faculty members. The celebration was not just an evening of melodies but also a meaningful lesson in kindness, sensitivity and human connection. The school management presented fruits and refreshments to the residents.
