Punjab: 7 including one Afghan National and one Juvenile arrested in a major operation, sophisticated weapons, heroin and Hawala money recovered

Amritsar/Chandigarh, June 25, 2026: Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav disclosed in a tweet that in a major breakthrough, Amritsar Commissionerate Police, in a joint operation with a central agency, busts a cross-border illegal arms, narcotics, and hawala network, apprehended seven accused including one Afghan national and one juvenile and recovers 10 sophisticated weapons, including two sub-machine guns, 5.048 kg of heroin, ₹30.38 lakh in hawala money.
He said that preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly linked to foreign-based handlers operating through social media platforms. They received consignments and further distributed narcotics and illegal arms to criminal elements. The network also used hawala channels for financial transactions across various locations.
He further disclosed that an FIR has been registered at PS Islamabad, in Amritsar. Further investigation is underway to establish backward and forward linkages, identify additional associates connected with the foreign-based network, and ascertain further recoveries and arrests.
