Punjab Police check over 1.8 lakh vehicles, issue nearly 40,000 challans in crackdown on illegal hooters, sirens and black films

Chandigarh, June 26, 2025: Punjab Police has concluded a 15-day statewide special drive against the illegal use of hooters, sirens, flashers and black films on vehicles, checking nearly 1.80 lakh vehicles and issuing 39,872 challans as part of an intensified enforcement campaign.
The drive, conducted on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, targeted private vehicles using unauthorized signalling devices and tinted window films in violation of traffic and security regulations.
Sharing details, Special DGP (Law and Order) Praveen Sinha said police teams checked 1,79,980 vehicles across Punjab. During the operation, officers removed 202 illegal hooters, 49 sirens, 2,430 flashers, and black films from 2,445 vehicles. In addition, 412 vehicles were impounded for serious violations.
Special DGP Sinha reiterated that hooters, sirens and flashers are meant exclusively for emergency and essential service vehicles and warned that private individuals found misusing such devices would face strict legal action. He added that the enforcement drive would continue across the state with a zero-tolerance approach.
Meanwhile, under the ongoing ‘Gangstran Te Vaar’ campaign, Punjab Police on Day 157 arrested 333 individuals, including two proclaimed offenders, and recovered seven weapons. Preventive action was also taken against 157 persons, while three individuals were released after verification.
With these arrests, the total number of people apprehended under the anti-gangster campaign has reached 40,684 since its launch, Punjab Police said.
