New Delhi, June 28, 2026: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday alleged that influential individuals involved in the alleged theft of donations from the Shri Ram Mandir were being protected, claiming that the investigation had focused only on lower-level staff while the main accused remained untouched.
Addressing a press conference in Amritsar, Kejriwal claimed that although allegations suggest nearly ₹200 crore in temple donations had been siphoned off, only ₹80 lakh had been recovered so far.
He questioned the course of the investigation, alleging that only lower-rank employees had been arrested while those allegedly behind the larger conspiracy continued to remain free.
“The police did not even seek custody remand of the arrested persons to question them about where the money went, who received it and where it was hidden. Sending them directly to judicial custody raises serious questions about the investigation,” Kejriwal alleged.
The former Delhi Chief Minister further alleged that the probe appeared to be an attempt to “cover up” the case and demanded a comprehensive investigation to trace the missing funds and identify those responsible.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann said religious institutions should be managed by people associated with the respective faiths and not be subjected to political interference.
Citing examples of temple trusts in Punjab, Mann said religious bodies should comprise respected members of the concerned religious communities, while maintaining that politics and religion should remain separate.
