Amritsar (Punjab), June 29, 2026: Punjab's Sikh MLAs and Cabinet Ministers on Monday appeared before the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib after being summoned in connection with the Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026.
During the proceedings, the legislators unanimously assured Sri Akal Takht Sahib that they would abide by its directives and support amendments to the anti-sacrilege law in accordance with Sikh religious sentiments. In addition, a few non-Sikh MLAs also appeared before the Secretariat and submitted their clarifications regarding the legislation, although they were not among those formally summoned as Sikh legislators.
