Chandigarh, July 10, 2026: The ongoing leadership tussle within the Punjab Congress is set to enter a crucial phase as Punjab Congress in-charge Bhupesh Baghel is scheduled to meet senior leaders from the Charanjit Singh Channi camp on Friday, July 11, in an effort to resolve differences over the state party leadership.
The Congress high command had tasked Baghel with holding consultations with Punjab leaders amid growing differences over the Punjab Congress presidency. He had initially arrived in the state for a five-day visit, but extended his stay by three more days after a meeting with the Channi camp could not be held.
Earlier this week, leaders of the Channi camp met at the residence of Congress MLA Rana Gurjit Singh and had indicated that only two representatives would meet the Punjab in-charge. However, according to sources, a broader meeting has now been proposed.
The meeting is expected to be held around 11 a.m. at Rana Gurjit Singh’s residence and is likely to be attended by former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, senior Congress leaders Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Pargat Singh and several other party leaders.
The discussions are expected to focus on resolving internal differences and restoring unity within the Punjab Congress ahead of future political challenges.
While the outcome of the meeting remains uncertain, party leaders hope it will help defuse the leadership dispute that has intensified in recent weeks.
