New Delhi, July 15, 2026: The iconic Red Fort has been closed to the public from July 15 as authorities begin extensive preparations for India's 79th Independence Day celebrations. The monument will remain inaccessible to visitors until August 15, when the annual national event concludes.
Every year, the historic fort serves as the venue where the Prime Minister hoists the Tricolour and addresses the nation on Independence Day. In view of the high-profile event, elaborate security arrangements and logistical preparations are undertaken well in advance.
