New Delhi, July 15, 2026: The Central Government has approved a six-month extension in the tenure of Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar (IAS) following a request from the state government.
According to an official order issued on Wednesday, Sai Kumar will now continue in office from September 1, 2026, to February 28, 2027. The extension has been granted under Rule 16(1) of the All India Services (Death-cum-Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
The Tamil Nadu Government had sought the extension through a proposal sent to the Centre on June 3, as Sai Kumar was scheduled to retire on August 31, 2026, on attaining the age of superannuation.
Sai Kumar was appointed as the state's Chief Secretary during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections after the Election Commission of India replaced the then Chief Secretary, N Muruganandam, as part of its administrative measures during the election period.
