Amritsar (Punjab), July 17, 2026: Commemorating the 100th martyrdom anniversary of eminent Sikh reformer Sardar Teja Singh Samundri, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu organised a special Shabad Kirtan at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi on Friday, while the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held a major commemorative function at Teja Singh Samundri Hall in Amritsar.
The twin events paid homage to one of the foremost architects of the Gurdwara Reform Movement and a founding member of the SGPC, whose contributions played a pivotal role in strengthening Sikh religious institutions.
Remembering his legacy, speakers highlighted Sardar Teja Singh Samundri's lifelong commitment to the Sikh Panth and his leadership during the historic movement to free gurdwaras from the control of hereditary mahants.
Born in 1882, Sardar Teja Singh Samundri emerged as one of the leading figures of the Akali movement and worked tirelessly for religious reforms and community welfare. He passed away in Lahore Jail on July 17, 1926, becoming one of the prominent martyrs of the Gurdwara Reform Movement.
