Punjab rolls out 10,500 safety tool kits worth Rs 12.60 crore for PSPCL employees
Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond launches distribution drive, says workers’ safety is the Punjab government’s top priority.

Ludhiana (Punjab), July 20, 2026: Punjab Power Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond on Monday launched the distribution of 10,500 safety tool kits worth ₹12.60 crore for employees of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), reaffirming the Punjab government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of frontline power workers.
The distribution drive was flagged off at PSPCL’s Sarabha Nagar office in Ludhiana in the presence of PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Dr Basant Garg, IAS, and Director (Distribution) Er. Inderpal Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Sond said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government has made the safety of electricity employees a top priority. He said power workers continue to provide uninterrupted electricity supply under all weather conditions and deserve the highest level of protection while performing their duties.
The minister noted that in the past, several Assistant Linemen (ALMs), linemen and other field employees lost their lives or suffered serious injuries while working on the power distribution network, and such incidents were not addressed with the seriousness they deserved.
He urged employees to regularly use the safety kits and strictly follow all safety protocols to minimise workplace accidents and protect lives. Sond also reiterated that the state government and PSPCL remain committed to improving employee safety, welfare and working conditions through similar initiatives in the future.
The event was hosted by Chief Engineer, Central Zone, Ludhiana, Er. Jagdev Singh Hans. Senior officials, including Chief Engineers from the P&M and Store & Workshop wings, were also present.
PSPCL CMD Dr Basant Garg said the corporation has spent around ₹12,000 on each safety tool kit, taking the total expenditure to ₹12.60 crore for the procurement of 10,500 kits.
He added that, along with distributing the equipment, PSPCL is also conducting regular training programmes to ensure employees know how to properly use the safety gear and reduce the risk of accidents while on duty.
Each safety kit includes a canvas tool bag, pliers, screwdriver set, spanner set, ratchet set, neon tester, pole safety belt, safety helmet, voltage sensor, reflective jacket, safety goggles, rechargeable LED torch and safety gloves, providing comprehensive protection for field staff working on the power distribution network.
