IMD issues 3-day rain warning for Punjab as heavy showers lash several districts

Chandigarh, July 21, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a three-day rain alert for Punjab, with widespread rainfall, thunderstorms and heavy showers expected across several parts of the state.
According to Surender Pal, Director of the Meteorological Centre, Chandigarh, changing weather conditions have intensified monsoon activity over the plains of Punjab, Chandigarh and Haryana. He said widespread rainfall is likely on July 21, while moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in many areas over the next two to three days.
Heavy rainfall has already been reported from several districts, causing waterlogging and disrupting normal life in some areas.
The IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall in Budhlada, Mansa, Barnala, Tapa, Patiala, Rajpura, Dera Bassi, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali, Talwandi Sabo, Abohar, Malout, Bathinda, Gidderbaha, Fazilka, Rampura Phul, Jaitu, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Jalalabad, Bassi Pathana, Chandigarh, Kharar, Chamkaur Sahib, Rupnagar, Bagha Purana, Faridkot, Moga, Ferozepur, Zira, Shahkot, Kotkapura, Sultanpur Lodhi, Tarn Taran, Khadoor Sahib, Nihal Singh Wala, Jagraon, Nakodar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar-II, Bholath, Dasuya and Mukerian.
The weather department has advised residents to remain cautious, particularly in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging, and to stay updated with official weather advisories.
