Railway strengthens green energy infrastructure with rooftop solar expansion
Ferozepur, July 21, 2026: Railway, continued to advance its commitment towards sustainable development, renewable energy adoption, energy security, decarbonization, and environmental protection through the large-scale installation of rooftop solar power plants across railway stations.
At present, rooftop solar power systems are operational at 22 railway stations with a total installed capacity of 1,700.08 kW (1.70 MW). During June 2026, these solar installations generated 63,430 kWh of clean electricity, while the cumulative generation during FY 2026–27 (up to June 2026) has reached 190,675 kWh.
The initiative has significantly reduced dependence on conventional energy sources, improved energy efficiency, lowered electricity expenditure, and contributed towards reducing carbon emissions, thereby supporting Indian Railways' vision of a clean, green, energy-efficient, and sustainable transportation system.
To further strengthen its renewable energy infrastructure, Firozpur Railway Division has set a target of installing an additional 1.15 MW rooftop solar capacity during FY 2026–27, reaffirming its commitment towards environmental conservation and the Net-Zero Carbon mission of Indian Railways.
