New Delhi, July 21, 2026: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday claimed that the Central Government was fully prepared to hold a discussion in Parliament on the NEET issue and the ongoing student protests, but alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi changed his position after being assured of the debate.
In a post on social media, Singh said Rahul Gandhi had initially conveyed that if the government agreed to discuss NEET and issues concerning protesting students in Parliament, the Congress would immediately call off its protest.
The Union Minister claimed that after obtaining approval from the government's top leadership, Rahul Gandhi was informed that the Centre was ready for a discussion in Parliament on the issue.
However, Singh alleged that Rahul Gandhi subsequently changed his demand and insisted that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan should also resign.
"When Rahul Gandhi was reminded that his original demand was only for a discussion in Parliament, he said his demands had now changed," Singh claimed.
The Union Minister criticised the Congress leader, saying it was "unfortunate" for a senior political leader to backtrack on his earlier position, and alleged that such conduct was against democratic conventions.
