Breaking: Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association suspends work in support of lawyers’ strike

Chandigarh, July 28, 2026: The Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association on Tuesday announced the immediate suspension of work in support of the ongoing agitation by lawyers opposing the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System (LADCS).
The decision was taken as advocates intensified their protest against the implementation of the LADCS, arguing that the system adversely affects the interests and professional opportunities of practising lawyers.
Lawyers raised slogans of "Sadda Haq, Aithe Rakh" outside Courtroom No. 1 of the Punjab and Haryana High Court during the protest, demanding the withdrawal of the Legal Aid Defence Counsel System.
