PSPCL/PSTCL CMD Basant Garg reviews power supply at Badbar Grid, stresses timely capacity upgrade

Barnala (Punjab), July 31, 2026: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) Chairman-cum-Managing Director Basant Garg, IAS, on Friday reviewed power supply arrangements at the 66 KV Badbar Grid Sub-Station and expressed satisfaction with its overall functioning and preparedness.
Garg visited the grid sub-station during his visit to the Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant at Lehra Mohabbat. He was accompanied by PSPCL Director (Generation) Er. Punardeep Brar.
The review was attended by Chief Engineer/DS South Er. R.K. Mittal, SE Protection and Maintenance, Patiala, Er. Sanjiv Garg, XEN City Division, Barnala, Er. Vikas Singla, and XEN Protection and Maintenance, Barnala, Er. Deepinder Partap, along with other field officers.
Officials informed the CMD that the Badbar Grid Sub-Station, commissioned in 2009, was initially equipped with a 12.5 MVA power transformer. The grid receives power through a 12-km-long 66 KV single-circuit transmission line from the 220 KV Dhanaula Sub-Station, which is currently operating at around 60 per cent of its capacity.
The grid supplies electricity to four non-agricultural feeders serving Badbar, Bhure, Kubbe, Bhaini Mehraj and adjoining areas. It also operates nine agricultural feeders to meet the power requirements of farmers.
With electricity demand increasing over the years, an additional 12.5 MVA transformer was commissioned at the grid in 2015. Both transformers are currently operating at around 80 per cent capacity.
Officials said a proposal to upgrade Transformer No. 1 from 12.5 MVA to 20 MVA is under consideration and is expected to be completed shortly. The augmentation is aimed at meeting future demand and improving the reliability of the power supply system.
During the visit, Garg reviewed the grid’s operational status, proposed augmentation works and the quality of electricity being supplied to domestic and agricultural consumers. He appreciated the efforts of field officers in maintaining a reliable power supply and stressed the need to complete the augmentation work on time.
Expressing satisfaction with the grid’s overall performance and the preparedness of the field staff, the CMD reiterated PSPCL’s commitment to strengthening power infrastructure and ensuring uninterrupted and quality electricity supply to consumers across Punjab.
