Longowal/Sunam, August 8, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora on Saturday distributed grant cheques worth Rs 2.60 crore to Gram Panchayats for carrying out 59 development works across 40 villages in the Sunam Assembly constituency.
Speaking to mediapersons during an event in Longowal, Arora said the Punjab Government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was focusing on the overall development of villages and ensuring basic amenities for residents.
He said the government was committed to balanced development of rural and urban areas and was prioritising projects based on the requirements of local residents. Long-pending demands in the constituency were also being addressed on priority, he added.
Arora urged Panchayati Raj representatives to ensure that the funds were utilised transparently and honestly in the public interest. He also asked them to complete the sanctioned works within the stipulated timeframe and according to prescribed quality standards.
Arora highlights government employment policy
Speaking about employment, the Cabinet Minister said the state government was providing government jobs to eligible youth through a transparent and merit-based process.
He claimed that young people were being given government employment without bribery or recommendations and solely on the basis of merit and eligibility. He described the policy as “No Cash, No Favour”, saying it was aimed at giving youth opportunities to progress through hard work and merit.
Arora also criticised opposition parties, claiming that people in Punjab had recognised their political approach and were now giving greater importance to development, education, healthcare, employment and basic amenities.
The Cabinet Minister said the people of Sunam had consistently supported him and described them as part of his extended family. He said addressing public grievances and accelerating development in the constituency remained his priorities.
He assured residents that efforts would continue to strengthen infrastructure and development across Sunam in the coming days.
Officials from various departments, village Sarpanches and Panches, and a large number of residents attended the event.
