Himachal Rain Alert: Heavy rain forecast till Aug 16; 106 roads blocked

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), August 11, 2026: The reactivation of the monsoon has brought heavy rainfall to several parts of Himachal Pradesh, with the Meteorological Department forecasting rain across the state until August 16.
An orange alert has been issued for isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall in Bilaspur, Kangra, Sirmaur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Mandi, Shimla and Una districts on Tuesday.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, light rainfall was recorded at several places on Monday. Jubbarhatti received 2.4 mm, Sundernagar 2.1 mm, Dharamshala and Chamba 2 mm each, Shimla 0.9 mm and Kufri 0.5 mm. Dharamshala recorded the highest rainfall of 60 mm in the past 24 hours.
The heavy rain has also disrupted essential services across the state. By Tuesday evening, 106 roads, 66 transformers and 19 drinking water schemes remained affected.
Kullu recorded the highest number of blocked roads at 40, followed by Mandi with 38 roads. Mandi also reported disruptions to 63 transformers, affecting power supply in several areas.
A landslide near the Chamiyana four-lane road has also disrupted traffic, with restoration work currently underway.
155 deaths reported since June 30
According to the State Emergency Operations Centre, 155 people have died in rain-related incidents and accidents since June 30. Chamba reported 24 deaths, while Kangra recorded 21.
A total of 256 people have been injured, while two people remain missing.
The state has so far suffered estimated monsoon-related economic losses exceeding ₹835 crore, according to official data.
