Punjab sanctions Rs 8.33 crore for infrastructure projects in Gurdaspur’s minority-concentration areas

Chandigarh, August 17, 2026: The Punjab Government has sanctioned and released ₹8.33 crore for the completion of key infrastructure projects in minority-concentration areas of Gurdaspur district, Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur said on Monday.
The projects, being undertaken under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, include the construction of 258 Anganwadi Centres, four Community Complexes and six additional classrooms across four blocks of the district.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the initiative is aimed at strengthening grassroots infrastructure and improving access to essential public services, particularly for children, women and local communities. She added that the projects would contribute to the educational, social and economic empowerment of minority communities and promote more inclusive development in the district.
Giving details of the allocation, the minister said Gurdaspur Block will get 78 Anganwadi Centres and one Community Complex. Dera Baba Nanak Block will have 57 Anganwadi Centres, one Community Complex and five additional classrooms, while Kalanaur Block will receive 51 Anganwadi Centres, one Community Complex and one additional classroom.
In Dhariwal Block, 72 Anganwadi Centres and one Community Complex will be completed under the sanctioned projects.
Dr. Baljit Kaur said the infrastructure would create lasting community assets and improve the quality of childcare, educational and community services in the district.
She reiterated that the Punjab Government remains committed to strengthening public infrastructure and ensuring that the benefits of development reach all sections of society.
The minister said the projects were part of the government’s broader focus on equitable development and strengthening facilities at the grassroots level, in line with its vision of a “Rangla Punjab.”
