Food Safety Wing seizes around 3 qtls of suspected substandard sweets
Ferozepur, August 17, 2026: In a major food safety check ahead of the festive season, the Food Safety Wing seized approximately three quintals of suspected substandard sweets from a vehicle travelling from Fazilka towards Moga on the Ferozepur road.
According to Food Safety Officer, Abhinav Khosla, the department had kept a check on the route since morning. After waiting for the suspected vehicle, officials intercepted it and recovered a large quantity of sweets, including barfi and kalakand, reportedly being transported from Punchi Sweets, Fazilka.
Samples of the sweets were collected for laboratory testing, while the seized material was destroyed on the spot to prevent its possible misuse or sale to consumers. The action was taken as part of intensified food safety inspections being conducted ahead of the festive season.
Khosla said the Food Safety Wing has been conducting regular raids on shops, food establishments and vendors to check the quality and safety of eatables. Samples are collected during such inspections and legal proceedings are initiated wherever laboratory reports confirm that the food products have failed prescribed safety and quality standards.
The department has also urged the public to remain vigilant during the festive season and purchase sweets and other food products only from licensed and reliable vendors. Officials said strict checks are being undertaken to prevent unsafe or substandard food items from reaching consumers.
The latest action has once again brought the focus on the need for sustained enforcement, with the larger challenge being to ensure that stricter inspections translate into routine compliance and that unsafe food products are stopped before reaching the public.
