Canada Immigration Scam Alert: IRCC warns against fake lotteries, guaranteed Visas, priority processing
Babushahi Bureau
New Delhi, August 17, 2026Canada’s immigration authorities have issued a fresh warning to prospective immigrants, students and other applicants about scams promising guaranteed immigration, faster processing or secret pathways to Canada.
The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said there is no lottery, shortcut or secret programme that can guarantee a person’s selection for immigration to Canada.
In a warning posted on social media, IRCC said that no individual or agency can guarantee immigration to Canada and that no one can legitimately offer faster or priority processing for an application.
The warning is particularly relevant for applicants who rely on immigration consultants, agents or online intermediaries while applying for Canadian immigration programmes.
Beware of guaranteed offers
IRCC urged applicants to be cautious of anyone asking for money in exchange for a guaranteed immigration outcome. According to the department, claims that an applicant can secure a visa, permanent residence or faster processing through a special connection or payment should be treated as a major red flag.
The immigration authority also warned applicants against providing sensitive personal information or making payments through unofficial channels.
How applicants can protect themselves
IRCC advised prospective immigrants to obtain information about Canadian immigration programmes directly from official Government of Canada sources.
Applicants should also verify that they are using an official IRCC platform before submitting personal information or making any payment.
The warning comes amid the continued popularity of Canadian immigration routes among applicants from countries including India, where prospective students, workers and permanent-residence applicants frequently use consultants and agents to navigate the application process.
For applicants, the basic message from Canadian immigration authorities is straightforward: there is no secret route to guaranteed immigration and no legitimate way to buy priority processing.
IRCC urged people to be particularly cautious when an offer appears unusually easy or promises a guaranteed result, reminding applicants that if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
