Tarn Taran: Woman murdered during daylight robbery at Malia Kalan village

Tarn Taran (Punjab), August 29, 2026: Panic gripped Malia Kalan village in Tarn Taran district after two unidentified masked men allegedly entered a house in broad daylight, carried out a robbery and killed a woman present inside.
The deceased has been identified as Kuldeep Kaur, 38, wife of Lakhwinder Singh alias Lakhi. Police have taken the body into custody and initiated an investigation into the circumstances and motive behind the killing.
According to the family, around ₹70,000 in cash, gold earrings, a chain and a ring were missing from the house. Lakhwinder Singh, a retired Army personnel, provided the information regarding the missing valuables.
Preliminary information suggests that two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and entered the house at around 10:52 am. They reportedly left the premises at approximately 11:20 am. At the time of the incident, the couple’s son was away at school.
The incident took place on Raksha Bandhan, when families were celebrating the festival. The victim’s brother, who is based in England, was reportedly expecting to celebrate Raksha Bandhan with his sister but was instead informed of her death. He is returning to India from England following the incident.
Following the incident, DSP Investigation Shiv Darshan Singh and the City Police Station in-charge, along with a police team, reached the spot and began investigating the case.
Police are investigating how and why the woman was killed and are working to identify the suspects involved in the robbery and murder.
