Breaking: Punjab Govt employees announce fresh agitation, plan ‘Employees’ Assembly, Maha Strike

Ludhiana (Punjab), August 30, 2026: The standoff between Punjab government employees and the state government is set to intensify, with employee organisations announcing a series of protests and demonstrations from September through October.
The decisions were taken during an important meeting of various employee organisations at Bachat Bhawan in Ludhiana on Sunday, following the state-wide strike observed by employees on August 27.
As part of the next phase of their agitation, the organisations have planned district-level meetings across Punjab from September 1 to 6 to mobilise employees and chalk out further strategies.
The unions have also announced gheraos of ministers on September 12 and 13 as part of their campaign to press the government to address their demands.
One of the key decisions taken at the meeting was to launch a campaign titled ‘Secretariat to Satoj’, aimed at increasing pressure on the Punjab government.
The employee organisations have further decided to stage protests outside the residences of various MLAs on September 19 and 20.
Another major programme has been scheduled for September 30, when the employees will hold an ‘Employees’ Assembly’. The organisers said all 117 MLAs and 13 MPs would be invited to the assembly.
The agitation will then move to Sangrur, where employee organisations have announced a major rally on October 10. As the final and most significant phase of the campaign, the unions have announced a two-day mass leave programme, or ‘Maha Strike’, on October 21 and 22.
The overall protest programme includes demonstrations targeting ministers and MLAs, the Employees’ Assembly, the Sangrur rally and the proposed two-day mass strike.
With employee organisations now announcing a sustained campaign stretching from September to October, the dispute between Punjab government employees and the state government is expected to intensify further in the coming weeks.
