Bike-borne duo ambushed in Mamdot market, leaves one dead, one critical
Ferozepur, August 30, 2026: A 45-year-old man was shot dead and another young man critically injured when four assailants travelling in a car opened fire in the main market of Mamdot late on Saturday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Gurpreet Singh, alias Gopi, while Harpreet Singh, alias Happy (22), sustained serious injuries. According to reports, the two were riding a motorcycle when the four attackers, travelling by car, fired multiple shots at them.
Following the attack, both victims were rushed to Civil Hospital, Firozpur, where doctors declared Gurpreet Singh dead on arrival. Harpreet Singh was later referred to a private hospital in Ludhiana for further treatment.
Sources said Vicky Maini, the newly elected Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) President of Mamdot Nagar Panchayat, was present with the victims at the time of the attack but narrowly escaped unharmed. According to sources, Gurpreet Singh's father, Balkar Singh, is a former Congress leader, while Gurpreet Singh himself was associated with the Aam Aadmi Party.
Police are conducting a thorough investigation, and a search for the attackers is underway.
