Chandigarh, August 31, 2026: The ABVP has won the presidential post in the Panjab University Students’ Council elections, with its candidate Ankit Bidhan securing victory with 2,879 votes.
Bidhan contested the presidential election on the ABVP ticket and received the backing of the Student Organisation of India (SOI), the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, which entered into an alliance with ABVP shortly before the elections.
Following the announcement of the result, ABVP celebrated Bidhan’s victory, describing it as another mandate from the students of Panjab University. ABVP Himachal Pradesh also congratulated Bidhan and termed the result a reflection of student support for the organisation.
Reacting to his victory, Bidhan said, “This is not my victory alone; it is the victory of the entire Gen Z.” He further said the result showed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and ABVP have a place in the hearts of the younger generation.
The victory marks ABVP’s second consecutive win in the presidential election of the Panjab University Students’ Council. Last year, ABVP’s Gaurav Veer Sohal became the first candidate from the organisation to win the students’ council presidency.
The other key posts in this year’s election went to candidates from different groups. PUDF’s Armaan Singh Bhinder won the Vice-President post, while Independent candidate Dhyan Singh secured the Secretary’s post. Independent candidate Vishal Bamal won the Joint Secretary position.
With the presidential result now declared, Bidhan will take over as the newly elected President of the Panjab University Students’ Council.
