AAP Punjab targets BJP over ED action; Aman Arora, Kuldeep Dhaliwal allege misuse of Central Agencies

Chandigarh, September 2, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab chief spokesperson Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal have launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the Enforcement Directorate (ED) repeatedly writing to the Punjab Police seeking registration of an FIR in a high-profile money laundering case.
Arora and Dhaliwal alleged that the BJP-led Central government was misusing central investigative agencies to put pressure on the Punjab government. They accused the Centre of using agencies such as the ED to interfere in the functioning of the state government.
The issue has intensified after the ED reportedly wrote to the Punjab Police for the third time, asking it to register a police case immediately in the matter.
According to media reports, the ED stated in its latest communication that the necessary information and material related to the case had already been shared with the Punjab Police. The agency has also reportedly asked the state police to provide it with a copy of the FIR after registration.
The ED has further sought that the FIR be registered before the next hearing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 3, with a copy made available to the agency ahead of the hearing.
Reacting to the development, Arora and Dhaliwal questioned the repeated intervention by the central agency and alleged that central investigative agencies were being used as political instruments against opposition-ruled states.
The AAP leaders maintained that the repeated communications from the ED amounted to pressure on the Punjab government and alleged that the BJP was attempting to use central agencies to serve its political interests.
The latest development comes amid an ongoing legal and political dispute over the money laundering case, with the ED pressing the Punjab Police to initiate criminal proceedings while the matter remains under judicial consideration.
