Chandigarh, September 2, 2026: Farmers’ organisations on Wednesday announced a fresh phase of agitation in Punjab, saying they would stage protests outside the residences of six state ministers and Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan from September 14 over a 23-point charter of demands.
The announcement was made after a meeting of farmers’ representatives in Chandigarh. Farmer leader Baldev Singh Zira said the protests would begin at 11 am on September 14 and continue for five days outside the residences of the ministers.
Zira said farmers had already begun a campaign against what they described as the government’s failure to act against those allegedly involved in stealing tractors and agricultural equipment. He said banners carrying the message “Trolley Chor” had been put up in villages as part of the campaign and that further programmes would be announced in the coming days.
Farmer leader Jaswinder Singh Langowal said the demands raised by the farmers were not new and largely concerned commitments made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) before coming to power.
Among the major demands is a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and assured procurement of five crops in Punjab. The farmers said the five crops include basmati, potato and maize, along with two other crops for which they want procurement guarantees from the state government.
The farmers also demanded action against those allegedly involved in the theft of tractors and other agricultural equipment. They urged the Punjab Government to pass a resolution in the state Assembly on the issue.
Another demand raised during the meeting was cancellation of the India-US trade deal, while the farmers also sought the introduction of a comprehensive crop insurance scheme in Punjab.
Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher called for a special session of the Punjab Assembly to discuss issues concerning farmers and the state’s agricultural policies.
The farmers also demanded that both farmers and agricultural labourers be freed from debt and sought clarity from the Punjab Government on its position regarding water-related issues.
The protesters said the government had the ability to resolve their demands and urged it to take immediate steps in this direction. They warned that if their demands were not accepted, the agitation would be intensified further.
The farmers said the proposed five-day protests outside the residences of ministers and the Assembly Speaker were part of their next phase of mobilisation and that further decisions would be taken depending on the government’s response.
The appointment is part of AAP Punjab’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its grassroots organisation and improve coordination at the constituency level.
